Dogs have probably been with us since the beginning of time. They can be traced back to 10,000 BC. Sometimes it is hard to realize that a dog was a wolf or some part of the Canidae family. But what was once wild is now a compassionate animal that truly benefits from human companionship and vice versa. Dogs are now one of the humans’ most popular companions. They are intelligent and well trained to do tasks anywhere from herding cows to detecting illegal drugs, finding bombs, and they do a good job working in law enforcement agencies. Assistance dogs help people with all kinds of disabilities. Dogs have been shown to improve their humans’ cardiovascular and mental health by reducing blood pressure, increasing exercise, and decreasing stress and anxiety levels. Is it any wonder why we want them in our lives? They are not only mans best friend but they also serve many important purposes in society.
